Climate in Albania

Climatic conditions

Albania has a variety of climatic conditions due to its varied terrain. The coastal regions have a typical Mediterranean climate whereas the mountains have a Continental climate. Basically, the winters are cold and wet while the summers are mostly hot and dry. As you travel away from the coast, it gets colder and wetter. The mountains experience heavy snowfall from November until March.  The coastal lowlands have a mild winter with the average temperature of 7° C while summers are warm with an average temperature of 24° C and high humidity. Rainfall is abundant but unevenly distributed throughout the country. In the North Alpine region, the average rainfall recorded is 100 inches while it can be as low as 30 inches in the Eastern parts. The South-western parts of Albania suffer from summer droughts.

Clothing required

Each season requires appropriate clothing which is decided by the location you choose while planning your holiday to Albania. If you aim to visit the mountains, water proof jackets and warm clothes are a must throughout the year. Same is true even for the coastal areas if you are travelling in winters. However, in summers, full length trousers and a light jacket will be necessary in the evening.
